Funky little beach town, part II

In Rehoboth, you can eat salt water taffy, all kinds of fudge and glorious ice cream, all in one place.

Maybe you’d like to stop in at an Irish pub?

There’s something awfully romantic about lavender at twilight.

Funky little beach town, part I

I was going to do this for TILT (Things I Love Thursday) but didn’t have time, so here it is for Friday.

I do love a funky little beach town like Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where you can walk the boardwalk and look at the ocean.

First azaleas

Azaleas are blooming all over the place in the D.C. area, and they are extra-beautiful this year. I was afraid rain and possible tornadoes(!) would decimate them last night, but nothing materialized–yay.

These are growing along the driveway next to our house:

The focus is a bit off on this one because I was dealing with some pretty strong wind.

Is anyone watching the royal wedding tomorrow? Unless I wake up at 4 a.m., I’ll probably miss it. I’m sure they’ll have plenty of re-broadcasts. Even the Weather Channel is covering it!

Lastly, thanks so much for the lovely comments yesterday. I couldn’t answer them individually because I had to shut off my computer last night due to the weather. I really appreciate the feedback.

Bleeding hearts, forget-me-not

It wasn’t until I viewed this shot on my monitor that I saw the symbolism of the pairing.

Eastern redbud

Hi everyone, hope you all had a good weekend.

I took these in a hurry in-between rainstorms on Saturday morning. The flowers are Eastern redbud blossoms, one of my favorites.

The blossom on the lower right looks a little like a heart, don’t you think?

I have lots of catching up to do, so will probably post just one photo for a while.

These are all Kwanzan cherry blossoms. The blossoms you see at the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. are from the Yoshino cherry tree, and they are much smaller and paler in color.
I like them both.

Random Disney, Part II

More Disney for you….

Lady & Tramp topiaries

As I said yesterday, there were flowers everywhere. Topiaries too. This is Lady and the Tramp at the Italy pavilion.

A view of Italy from across the lake or lagoon:

Italy, Epcot

I loved this door handle at one of the Italy shops:

detail, Italy gift shop door

restaurants, Italy pavilion

Restaurants in Italy.

About dining in Disney World. Don’t be like us and assume you can get reservations at most of the restaurants. The guidebook said “reservations recommended,” but should have read “absolutely essential.” We didn’t want to be hampered by a set schedule, so got locked out of many places. I think some may have been reserved weeks in advance, because four days’ notice wasn’t enough. Out of desperation, we ordered room service the first morning and paid twenty bucks for this:

breakfast

We eventually found cheaper places to eat, but it wasn’t easy.

The Wave

One of the restaurants in our resort. Nice entrance, huh?

stave kirk, Norway

One of my grandmothers was Norwegian, so I was especially happy to see the stavekirk at the Norway pavilion.

Epcot

Another glimpse of China from the Italy pavilion.

The leader of the band

Mickey in one of the gift shops.

Finally, there’s a huge geosphere in Future World that has a pretty cool ride inside. It takes you through all the stages of modern civilization with very realistic animatronics.

That’s Buzz Lightyear with…Elmo? Sorry, my sons are too old for Sesame Street so I don’t keep up anymore.

A closer look:

Our last view of Epcot. I can’t believe my point-and-shoot captured this. Sometimes a Canon is all right. 😉

Random Disney, part I

Hey everyone, some random shots from my trip to Disney World and Epcot Center….

I don’t know what Epcot looks like the rest of the year, but there was a flower show going on in April and flowers were everywhere. This is in-between Future World and Epcot with the monorail in the background.

Bambi

Bambi inside the butterfly garden. The butterfly and gecko on his forehead are real. He, unfortunately, is not.

Inside the gift shops at the Japanese pavilion, some chopsticks…

chopsticks

and paper lanterns.

Japanese lanterns

Germany was a favorite of mine, as I lived and worked there for two years:

Germany

The whole place looked like something out of a fairytale.

ornaments, Germany

How cute are these Seven Dwarfs ornaments? Wonder why it’s not “dwarves”? Scarf, scarves; wolf, wolves. Oh well.

There’s a manmade lake at Epcot Center and all the pavilions are arranged in a semicircle around it….

Canada + lake

That’s Canada, which was closed when we were there for reasons unknown.

China, Epcot

That’s China, the only pavilion we missed! We thought of going back, but then we would have missed dinner, and after six hours of walking we needed some sustenance. Travel tip: don’t try to do Epcot Center and Future World in one day.

Finally, the Italy pavilion was beautifully done. I’ve been to Venice, so I know how it’s supposed to look, but this is such a nice replica of the bell tower at St. Mark’s.

St. Mark's, Epcot

Part II tomorrow.
