Tennessee Clouds

Hi everyone! We are still en route across the U.S., so just a quick post today. The trip has been a little challenging because it’s been at least 100 degrees F. for the past three days. It’s a dry heat, but wow….

I thought this cloud formation in Tennessee was pretty cool. I’ve added a vintage look to an iPad shot:

Thanks so much for the well wishes, and welcome new subscribers! Hope you’re all doing well. . . .

Hydrangea Love

I took this shot of some hydrangeas with my iPhone and was surprised to see the heart shape when I looked at the photo later. . . .

Some Hydrangea Love

This is my last post for a little while, as the movers are coming tomorrow (Ack!). I’ll try to upload a few photos while we’re driving across the country, if all goes well. If not, I’ll be back in a week or two.

Boy Toy

Look at this beauty that was parked outside a Toyota dealership the other day!

And now the front....

It’s a “vintage” Morgan, date unknown. The processing is courtesy of Instagram.

Boy Toy

Here’s the back view, with a little cross processing added for fun.

At first glance, I thought this car was really old, although in mint condition. Then I noticed the seat belts and headrests. Had no idea they were still in production. How fun would it be to tool around in one?

And how about that license plate?

Great weekend, everyone. And welcome to the new subscribers!

After the Rain

Last year I planted three hydrangeas in the backyard. I’m so pleased to see that they’re blooming this year. Some are pink, some lavender and some blue. A few are this color that seems to be a mix of all three:

After the rain

Hope your week’s going well so far. . . .

Cruisin’ the Na’Pali Coast

For me, the most beautiful part of Kauai is the Na’Pali Coast. I’d seen it from the deck of a cruise ship six years ago and wanted to experience the place from a closer vantage point. A helicopter ride would have been wonderful, but pretty expensive, and hiking wasn’t an option. I found a sunset dinner cruise that sounded perfect.

Once again the weather was outstanding, and the views were beautiful the minute we left port.

Waimea from boat

I think that’s Waimea Canyon in the distance.

The water was relatively calm, but the catamaran was rocking gently. I wasn’t concerned, because I had those magnetic wristbands that worked for me on the cruise. My friends were wearing them too.

The landscape soon got very interesting and very beautiful. . . .

na'pali 2

It kind of overwhelms you. The cliffs are so different with their mossy-green covering and unusual shapes. The Pacific looks light blue near the coast and navy blue out where we were.

waterfall

Of course there was a waterfall.

na'pali colors

Aren’t the colors just sublime?

sailboat

This sailboat gives a sense of how high the cliffs are.

Right about here, the crew started grilling shrimp and other great stuff. Unfortunately, I was really seasick by then. The magnets didn’t work! I managed to get to the ladies room before I lost my lunch. Felt much better, so why oh why did I drink a ginger ale? I felt sick the rest of the cruise and couldn’t eat a thing. Our poor friend J was even sicker and spent most of the cruise lying down. 😦

I soldiered on, though, and got my shots. Do you see how the water looks a little more choppy?

choppy waters

We were seriously rocking by now, and several of my photos looked like this. I had to straighten almost all of them after I uploaded. Let me tell you, it’s a challenge shooting when you’re seasick. I think concentrating on photography helped distract me from the retching.

na'pali cliffs

The sheer beauty of the place helped an awful lot too.

I only wish I’d had my zoom lens with me. Didn’t count on being this close and it was hard to get a full shot. So I’m going to cheat a little and insert a photo I took six years ago.

NaPali Coast

All too soon, we were heading back to port. But we had two treats still ahead:

whale watching

The captain spotted a whale watching boat and we got to see some whales from a distance! Hard to see here, but it was very exciting.

Finally, a truly dazzling sunset. . . .

Hope I haven’t put you to sleep with all the photos! I’ll be back to one-photo posts from now on as we get closer to moving.

Great weekend, everyone!

Waimea, Kilauea and Wailea

Waimea Canyon is called the Grand Canyon of Hawaii. Though I haven’t seen the latter yet, I’ve looked at many photos and there’s definitely a similarity.

It was very sunny and hazy the day we were there, but you can still see most of the colors.

April is a wonderful time to go because it’s not mobbed with people and tour buses.

waimea visitors

When I was here in the summer six years ago, I could hardly find a place to stand.

You can even pay to have your picture taken with this guy:

We passed on that.

The road to Kilauea Lighthouse was so nice I had to stop and take a photo:

road to Kilauea

There’s only one word for the weather: perfect.

I do like the graphics on the sign that marks the lighthouse.

As you drive closer, there’s a wonderful view of the entire area:

Once you’re at the lighthouse, you can admire its beauty,

After the lighthouse, we drove along the highway until we came upon this sight:

hanalei valley

Hanalei Valley is the greenest, loveliest patchwork quilt of farmland I’ve ever seen. The mountains aren’t too shabby either. Kauai is most definitely my favorite island.

Only one more Hawaii post after this one!

Golden Hour on the Beach

Things have been so hectic lately, I haven’t had time to post photos I took in California, and that was a month ago.

Although we were on the go constantly, we did manage one walk on the beach at “golden hour” just before the sun was setting.

thirty

It was a week day, so the beach was pretty empty, but we enjoyed the peace and quiet.

beach houses

Truly my favorite time of day to shoot at the beach (or anywhere). The plants in the foreground are ice plant (a ground cover that resists fire) and sea lavender.

sea lavender

A close-up of sea lavender. It’s also called statice and is in the plumbago family, not related to lavender at all. Grows really well in sand, as you can see.

cone

I have no idea what this is, but it makes me think of the Tin Man.

sunsetdark

Doesn’t the sand look like leather here? I was shooting with my iPhone, so the light was tricky.

afterglow

The sun pretty much stayed in the clouds, but it was still a lovely sunset.

I have two more posts on Kauai, Hawaii, and hope to get to them soon. . . .

Spring Market Again

A few more shots from the Old Lucketts Store Spring Market:

olive buckets

The last time I was in Luckettsville, I didn’t know what these things were called. I’ve since learned that they’re galvanized buckets for picking olives. They’d be great for firewood too.

watering can, small

Another metal watering can on a shabby chic table in dappled sunlight.

Vintage bottles were everywhere:

This radiator cover is only $US 345.

There was definitely a French theme going on. . . .

I’m out of town right now, so won’t be able to comment on your blogs. Back on Monday. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Spring Market in Luckettsville

The Old Lucketts Store had their “Spring Market” recently and although it was mobbed, I was able to get a few shots.

vintage crystal knobs

We have these crystal knobs on several doors and I never get tired of looking at them.

blue metal chair

I love the blue, but these chairs might be a little too shabby chic for me.

bowl of lemons

Lemons or oranges, anyone?

metal watering can

These old metal watering cans look great with peonies or roses in them. I was sorely tempted, but we’re trying to get rid of stuff for the move, so I passed on it.

horse

Somewhere, someone has just the right spot for this.

pretties

Such nice light was shining on these pretties.

vintage fabrics

Kinda’ kicking myself now for not stopping here. I love vintage fabrics like these.

bust

Somehow a Roman bust looks out of place in an old wheelbarrow.

More on Friday. . . .
