So I decided to change our cat’s name. “Danny” just doesn’t fit our Siberian. After much back and forth, I decided on “Yuri.” As in Yuri Zhivago, one of my favorite characters.

No resemblance at all, I know. π Yuri’s not answering to it yet, but hopefully will in time.
I can’t get over his tail. It’s so long and full! He holds it straight up when he goes down the stairs, which looks so funny to me.
Right now, Yuri’s favorite place to sleep is my lap. That’s fine now that we’re having cool weather, but it’s going to be too hot this summer.
Haven’t brought out the big Canon yet, so these were taken with the iPhone. I tried to get Yuri used to the vacuum cleaner, but he still hates it. Hopefully that won’t be the case with the camera.
I’m constantly surprised at how different cats and dogs are. There’s no way Rocky would have gotten up on the kitchen counters. Or the dining room table, etc. etc. Every time I think I’ve cat-proofed the house, Yuri finds something else to get into.
It’s not a good thing to look into a dog’s eyes (a sign of aggression) but Yuri often stares into my eyes very intently while purring (see first photo) then puts his paw on my shoulder. It’s the funniest thing. I don’t know if he’s claiming ownership or devotion. π
Great weekend, everyone!

He is so cute, I like his pinky nose! Yeah, cats are too different from dogs, they have their own character and habits! Yuri is adorable! Pictures are lovely, a big wish to hug him!
Thanks, Ann! I like the pink nose too. π
What a gorgeous boy!! Aww I just wanna snuggle him!
He would love it, Bonnie. Siberians are supposed to be more affectionate than the average cat, and that is true of ours.
Beautiful eyes! And I think the new name suits him.
Thanks, Susan. Danny just didn’t ring for me.
Dogs have people; cats have staff! π
So true, Randy. π
What beautiful eyes he has. π I love that fluffy tail.
I do too. His coat and tail are soooo soft.
He’s so beautiful and I like the name change. Mine don’t sit on my lap in summer, so you might be safe. Actually, cats don’t like looking into people’s eyes unless they really like them. I think he likes you a lot.
I’m glad to hear that! After having dogs for so long, it’s a bit unnerving to have a cat staring into my eyes, but I’m getting used to it. π And I’ve noticed that when I’m getting too warm, Yuri tends to move off my lap.
I think Yuri is doing both, with the split leaning toward ownership. Love this story and the pics, Carole!
Thanks, Cheryl! I have to say I’m very entertained by this little creature.
I love the new name and my mom loves that character! We used to watch that movie as kids quite often. He sure does have a gorgeous big tail!
I couldn’t watch that movie for years because it was so sad, but now I love it again.
His tail is something else. π
My mom loves it and we had to watch it every year! It is so sad!
Heartbreaking! For years I couldn’t even listen to the music because it made me too sad.

OMG, what a handsome cat Yuri is, I love the name. When I adopted my cat, in the shelter she was named hopscotch, because she has only the legs, so I decided to rename her, friends would suggest to call her tripod, since I am a photographer, quite funny. But I didn’t want her to be called by her conditions, so I named her Moshu. It didn’t take her long to get used to her new name. As far a s camera shy, she still doesn’t like my real professional one, there fore I have tons of pictures of her on my cell phone. Enjoy your new friend, Carol.
Oh, I like that name too, Cornelia. We sometimes see a three-legged dog being walked around the neighborhood–so brave. It was really kind of you to adopt her.
Thank you dear cat lover, when I saw her, Moshu it was like an instant love, and when she was delivered to my house I was so excited that I even took lipstick on me to look pretty for her. I know it sounds funny.
It sounds very sweet. π
His eyes are soulful. And Yuri is a beautiful name. π
Thank you. I have to agree with “soulful.” π
