Hi everyone,
We were evacuated from our home yesterday because of a bad fire near our neighborhood. By the end of the day there were eleven fires raging in the San Diego area and we had to hang out at an evacuation center all day, then stay in a hotel. We just got back in our house, but two houses in our development were completely burned. The flames came within a foot of our fence, so we were incredibly lucky. I’ll blog about it on Monday.
Thanks,
Carole
It feels wrong to click the like button, but I am so glad that you are safe and that your home was spared. I can’t even imagine…and my prayers are with you and everyone affected.
Thanks so much, Bonnie. I’ve never been that close to a major fire before. We were so very lucky.
Fires are damned scary. Glad you both are safe!
Thanks, Susan. It was so good to hear from everyone–made it a little less scary.
I was just about to send you a note to ask how you were doing. Glad that you and your home are safe. My friends are evacuated right now. I think they’re going to have a long night ahead of them.
How amazing are these firefighters?
Thanks, Jackie. I hope your friends are OK. This was the most insane thing I’ve ever seen. Fires all over the county and high winds with temps in the high 90s. Firefighters ROCK!
I’m glad to hear that you and your house are all okay!!
Jennie, thank you!
That’s awful! I’m so glad to hear you are OK. Such a scary thing, fire.
Thank you, Caroline. The winds made the fire so much worse, because you couldn’t tell which direction it was going to take. And the speed of the flames is beyond belief.
So sad! I’m glad that your house is ok.
Thank you. It really is heartbreaking to see people losing their houses. We came so close.
Glad you’re safe!
Thanks, Thoughtsy!
Glad to hear that you and your house are okay. I live in San Clemente, not too far from you, today I could see the fire from Camp Pendleton coming closer to my area, so scary, huge black clouds rigth over the freeway 5 . Since two nights I can smell the fire , the moon looks orange, my dining table is covered with white ashes. If you are in danger you can come always to my house. I think this heat will cool off over the weekend. Stay cool!!!
Oh, that’s so nice of you! I didn’t realize you were so close. Saw the smoke from Pendleton today–it is getting so wearisome. The sun and moon have been amazing, but I just haven’t felt like taking photos. We don’t have ash in the house, but the patio was pretty dirty and the garage smells like smoke. Hopefully we can open windows tomorrow when it’s cooler. Stay safe.
Being on the opposite side of the country, we’re getting lots of rain. But the coverage of the fires in CA have been making the news and internet sites everywhere. So horrible and frightening. Glad you are safe and for that reason, I am going to hit the ‘like’.
Thank you. I’ve seen the rain on the news and wish we could have some of it.
I didn’t see the flames behind our house and I’m glad, because it was pretty awful watching that footage on the news after the fact. I was able to stay hopeful because I didn’t know how bad it really was.
