We had rainstorms last Friday, but I managed to get a few shots in between them.
Looking north:
And looking south:
While I was framing a shot, these birds flew overhead.
I’m not a bird person, so have no idea what they are. Anyone out there know?
Hope your week’s going well so far. . . .

I have no idea what type of birds they are, but I hope someone does. And, wow, love your photos.
Thanks so much. At first I thought they were herons, but a quick Google search told me no.
There is just so much in CA for great pictures.
There is, but the difference out here is that you have to drive to it. I was lucky to be in a beautiful neighborhood back East where I could photograph lots of stuff within walking distance. I’m still getting used to that, but love being back in California.
I thought they were pelicans at first, they look very similar.
I like the first two photos and the contrast in the light a lot.
I have no idea, Caroline.
The light was very unusual that day and I saw a gorgeous rainbow while driving home. It was so frustrating to not have any place to pull over.
I agree that they look like pelicans. I’ve seen similar-looking birds in Florida and the Caribbean. Their beaks expand into large pouches on the bottom to hold lots and lots of fish! They scan the water for shadows of fish and then swoop right down and pluck the fish out of the water. Very impressive as I saw it close up while I was snorkeling.
I’ve seen pelicans before, but these birds look a lot smaller to me. I’m guessing there are many kinds?
These photos are so beautiful! I love the vivid colours. The sun in California is just gorgeous. I am thankful every day!
I am too, especially when I see New York and New Jersey on the news. It’s just unbelievable what those people are going through.
they looks like pelicans ? lovely captures
