Jeanne of the lovely blog flyinggma.com reminded me of my Nantucket trip last summer when she mentioned that her dad collected clocks. We saw the most beautiful clock shop on the island, and when I looked through photos the other night I realized I had some shots that I didn’t post last year. (I take a lot of photos when we travel, but I didn’t want to bore you to death!)Ā So away we go….
First up, the clock shop.
All the clocks in this shop were positively gleaming. Sorry about the distortion–my Canon point-and-shoot does that a lot with tall buildings.

and the wares inside.
Flowers are a big part of Nantucket. Hydrangeas do so well there because they love the sandy soil.
How sweet is this all-white display? Most of the buildings on Nantucket are done in gray shingle siding like this one.
Bikes are everywhere too. We didn’t bring our car with us and did just fine.
I love the way the white trim looks with the weathered shingle. Wonderful backdrop for flowering plants, don’t you think?

Lovely. I just realize that shingles aren’t something that is often used in Europe, maybe in some sea resorts but not even. I really like them. I’d like to visit Nantucket. Beautiful.
They’re not used in many areas of the U.S. because of fire danger. California outlawed cedar shake shingles when we lived there. I do love the way they look, though.
I’d like to just take a seat in that lovely chair under that hanging basket of flowers and watch the world go by for a little while.
Nantucket is such a lovely place to visit.
I was thinking the same thing when I uploaded the photo.
I want to visit Nantucket but until then I will enjoy your photos. Dad would in that clock shop for hours to make sure he didn’t miss anything.
