If you ever get the chance, go to a simulcast of one of the Metropolitan Opera’s productions. They’re shown in local theaters and are, well, incredible. I’ve been to the Met, and I’m beginning to like the simulcasts more. Why? Because the camera work–especially the closeups–are something you could never get live. Unless you can afford front-row tickets, which I can’t. Plus, after every act, Renée Fleming, one of my favorite sopranos, conducts interviews with the principals!
Yesterday I attended the simulcast of “Hamlet.” It was one of the best I’ve seen, hands down. The three leads, Simon Keenlyside, Marlis Petersen and Jennifer Larmore were incredible. The voices, the acting…superb. I was on the edge of my seat–literally–through the whole thing. Even if Hamlet isn’t your cup of tea, see this.</div
