September Makes Me Think of…

…apples! I love them, especially my favorite “Jazz” apples. They’re sweet, but not too much, and firm. I can’t stand soft apples. You will never see me eat a Golden Delicious. I used to like Granny Smiths, but not anymore–too tart and thick-skinned. The very best apples I ate were the ones we got from an old tree in the middle of a field near my parents’ house. They were green, but so good. There’s really nothing like a freshly-picked apple. We had a tree in our backyard, but those apples were pretty sour. My mother made the best pie from them, though.

When I was growing up, my dad would peel an apple for me in one fell swoop. Every night for years. He would eat the skin and give me the fruit because he knew I didn’t like the skin (red Delicious–yuck). A sweet memory for me.

Hope you all are healthy and surviving the pandemic….

Delicious Apples are the worst. Why would anyone ever eat one? πŸ™‚
