We don’t have glorious fall foliage in San Diego, but I managed to find a couple of poplar leaves that had turned lovely tiger-like colors.
The first leaf was on our glass table in the backyard. I shot this with my iPhone after an early morning rain shower. Not much available light.
The second leaf was in the front yard. I used my Nikon to capture some late-afternoon bokeh in the grass. Had to lie down on the driveway to get the angle I wanted.
Hope your week’s going well so far. . . .

These are some of your most amazing shots. They go right on my favourites list of your photos. The first one is stunning. At first, when only seeing half of it, I thought it was a butterfly.
What a lovely comment–thank you! Yes, now that you mention it, that first one does look a bit like a butterfly.
I love the patterns in the leaves. I’m sorry you’re missing the fall colors here. I was taking Reggie for a walk through the park and was overjoyed by all the colors. Let the leaf peeping begin.
Jackie, I was prepared to mourn the loss of fall colors, but so far it’s not happening. I took soooo many shots of the autumn leaves back East, I think I may have overdosed. 🙂 Will share a few of them here, as there just wasn’t time or room before. Enjoy New York for me!
Great set of photos! Love how much colors are there on a single leaf, and it’s wonderful that you got up close and personal to capture their details.
Thank you, and welcome to the blog. Your photos are lovely too.
Nicely seen pictures. I’m sort of glad I don’t have one of those phones – the pictures are excellent, but they are excellent of anything…..how is that?
Well, you’re only seeing the good iPhone shots. 🙂 I have plenty of bad ones, I assure you. For instance, I hardly ever use the phone camera at night, because I hate the flash and the quality of the photos is really poor. It’s kind of hit and miss with the iPhone because you are confined to the camera’s settings, but I really enjoy using it. Glare can be a real problem, but I’ve gradually learned what lighting conditions work for the phone.
The first shot on this post was actually a “test shot” for the Nikon, but it started raining again, and I liked the iPhone photo when I looked at it later.
Great photos…I would have loved to see you on the ground taking photos.
I did put a beach towel down first. 🙂
Beautiful images, Carole, the texture, tone and lighting are superb. I would have loved to see you prone in the driveway to get that second shot … must have given the neighbours a giggle. Wishing you a great weekend too.
Thanks, Cheryl. I was probably a pretty boring sight! No one was around–I think they were all preparing dinner. I’m now used to the stares and giggles, but it took a while.
It’s so interesting it almost looks like a butterfly.
i love the top photo – looks very abstract. I see a butterfly with beautiful wings.
