Six years ago, we lived in a house with sliding glass doors that led to the patio. There was also a sliding screen door to let in fresh air. The screen door squeaked slightly when we moved it, and Rocky seemed to think a mouse or some other animal lived inside. He would run to the door and stand there waiting for “Mousie” (our name) to come out. He would have stayed there all day if we’d let him.
Our new house also has a sliding screen door, and the first time I opened it, Rocky ran to it and did this:
I can’t believe he remembers. It’s been six years. And this door doesn’t even squeak. Every time Rocky stands there waiting, I have to say, “Mousie is gone, Rocky. All gone.” Then he gives up the vigil. Until the next time. What goes through a dog’s mind? I need the Dog Whisperer. 🙂
And please excuse the clutter–we’re still unpacking.
Great weekend, everyone!

Today I was asked whether I’d like to join a blog tour for a book with dog stories. Of course I accepted. Animals never cease to surprise me.
I’m glad you slowly see the end of the moving in part coming.
How cool!
They amaze me too, Caroline. It is uncanny what dogs and cats can sense.
The only things left now are organizing the garage and unpacking the office. The latter will be challenging because it contains 2 rooms worth of stuff. Will have to downsize again, but that’s OK.
That’s really neat, Caroline. Looking forward to reading your review!
Awwww…Rocky….
He is a character.
He is soooooooooooooo darned cute !
Thank you from Rocky. 🙂
That’s cute 🙂 Animals often surprise me!
All the time! I once had a cat that could walk on the narrow rim of a metal basin that was full of freshly-caught trout. I think I have a photo somewhere….
It’s amazing what dogs remember, isn’t it? My friend had a border collie who chased a squirrel up a tree in their backyard. For the rest of the dog’s life whenever she passed the tree, she always looked up at that tree.
It really is. I’m also amazed when Rocky remembers people he hasn’t seen for over a year.
Clutter? What clutter, Carole? Want to see a pic of my office (aka den) :)? Rocky is a cutie … funny what dogs remember but after this long time lapse that’s pretty amazing!
Ha ha, thanks, Cheryl! I forgot to take the garden stuff out of the shot.
Oh, you should see my workspace–stuff piled everywhere. But at least it’s out of the boxes. 😉
