The town of Lahaina, Maui, was once the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii and a major whaling center. Now it’s a mix of great shops
and restaurants where you can have lunch and look at this view of the island of Lanai:
It was so nice to eat lunch and dinner outdoors! I am really missing that now.
So, Lahaina has lots of bright colors,
reminders of days past,
friendly wood carvers,
a chilled-out saxophonist
and hibiscus in the parking lot:
Although some think Lahaina has gotten too touristy, I have fond memories of the town from my first visit to Maui six years ago. I still like it.
We also went to a luau in Lahaina, but I’ll save that for another time.
Hope your week’s going well. I am going away (again, I know!) for a few days, but will try to upload at least a photo while I’m gone.

Enjoy the time away and you are really making me miss Maui, even though I was only there once. Such a beautiful place.
And you are making me want to go on an African safari. 🙂
I was so happy in Hawaii.
Did you live there, Jennie?
Aren’t you spoilt, all that going away… I need to urgently sort out the cat situation (having nobody whom I trust enough to take care for a few weeks if both of us a re going) -or I’ll never go on any trips anymore. If it hadn’t been for visa reasons I could have gone to Russia. Grrrr.
Ohhh, that is tough, Caroline. Russia is another place I want to see. Hope you get things sorted out soon.
This is more of a business trip, but it will be in California, which is nice.
It would have been a business trip that’s why it’s not going to happen. A colleague applied long before and is still not sure to be on time with the visa. They are quite complicated… Yeah well…
Didn’t realize the visa situation was tricky there now.
This brings back a lot of fond memories. I stayed in a little condo in Lahaina when I visited Maui. I know what you mean by touristy, but I didn’t mind one bit after seeing the beautiful ocean and feeling the breeze.
Yes, that’s the great thing about Hawaii: you can choose what kind of environment you want and just go there. I like visiting little beach towns and looking at the ocean too. I could never get tired of the latter.
Great pictures! We’re starting an online store with Maui goods and one of our carvers has a booth on Front Street. Hawaii Fever? Love your pictures ~ if you love and miss HI as much as we do – check us out on FB or our blog. http://www.mainlandkamaainas.com! ALOHA!
Aloha and thanks for stopping by! I do love Hawaii.
Great shot of the saxophonist.
Thank you. Sometimes street performers aren’t thrilled to be photographed, but this guy was really laid back.
these are wonderful photos..so colourful, I really like the close up of the carver…
Well I have to credit your photos for making me consider a vacation in Maui sometime next year. We typically go to the Caribbean but after doing that for so many years I feel as though it may be time for a change. I hope you have a safe trip to CA
