Well, we were lucky. Hurricane Irene was downgraded to a tropical storm, and the only damage we experienced was a lot of leaves on the deck. No uprooted trees, flooding or power outages. The lights flickered twice, but came back on. We were prepared–bought canned food we could heat up on the gas burners and made sure the flashlights were working.
For me, this photo kind of embodies how we fared in the hurricane. A Japanese anemone that survived, but got a few petals pinned back by the wind and rain. Something easy to fix.

Carole, I’m so glad that you came out of the storm mostly unscathed. I know many people are dealing with flooded basements and trees through their roofs. We can count ourselves fortuntate!

I just noticed today that a tree fell down behind my house. And the wind pushed a branch so much that it tore up one of our window screens.
Scary. I thought about sleeping in the basement because of all the big trees in the yard, but didn’t. Glad you’re OK!
Earthquakes and thunder storms… You get a lot of extreme things. Compared to that it is gentle here. Glad you haven’t been affected.

It looks like Vermont had the worst of it. Beautiful homes and covered bridges were swept away by the floodwaters. I am very grateful we didn’t have flooding like that.
