This is inside the lobby of the Willard InterContinental Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C. It’s on Pennsylvania Avenue, just a stone’s throw from the White House, and was opened in 1901. The hotel fell into disrepair and was closed in 1968, but reopened in 1986 after years of renovation.
According to Wikipedia, every president since Franklin Pierce has either slept in or attended an event at the hotel at least once. Read more here.
I love the lobby, decorated for Christmas here. Check out the ceiling details.
And you thought your heels were high? This “stiletto” is outside Union Station in D.C. and probably part of an advertising campaign. I couldn’t decide which photo to upload today, so picked both.
Great weekend, everyone!
That is one big tree! And one large shoe! Is it hollowed out? Can I sit in it?
Yes, it is! I think you should sit inside it and get Kiefer to take your picture. But come to think of it, I seem to remember a guard standing nearby.
Can you imagine telling people your job is to guard a giant stiletto?
Guard, schmard. =)
Ohhhhh no, I had a feeling I shouldn’t have told you. 🙂
But what about those 14 years it was closed. No presidents, right?
Anyway, I used to go to Wash for all the IMF/World Bank Meetings so I have definitely been to that hotel.
I saw the hotel when it was shuttered and no one would want to stay there then. It was really sad.
Wow, what a small world! I used to go to French luncheons at a church near there and lots of World Bank people attended.
WOW!!!! The tree is beautiful but that big heel is speaking to my heart 🙂 I am so glad you picked both to post. The inside of that hotel is so beautifully detailed and the shoe…well what woman doesn’t connect with that 😀
Wish I could wear stilettos, but I’m 5’8, so no go. I wore them in my younger days, though. 🙂
Love the shoe. Love it. Next time someone teases me about my four-inchers (…what? I’m short!) I’m going to show them this photo.
Ha! Wear those 4 inchers for me, because I can’t!
Two incredible red themed photos. One is beautiful, the other one surprising.
It’s funny, I’ve been on a red kick lately and have no idea why. I just shot a Coca-Cola ornament (yes, it’s red) and thought maybe I have a problem. 🙂
What a beautiful tree! Next time I’m in DC I’ll have to go to this hotel. I’m sure it’s lovely any time of year.
Instead of a stiletto I think they should make a giant sneaker. 🙂 Much more comfortable.
So true.
