Into the Mist

I took this shot last month when we had a really foggy, misty morning. I went for a background I liked, but didn’t see all the color until I uploaded it.

Into the mist

Just so you know, WordPress cuts off a little bit of the right side when I post large photos. If you want to see the photo in its entirety, click here.

With the holidays rapidly approaching, I’m going to cut back to one or two photos each post for a while.

Blue Christmas

There’s a very nice boutique called The Blue House in Bethesda, Maryland. Their window displays never disappoint, and the place is filled with all kinds of gifts for adults and kids. Check out their Christmas windows:

The displays inside the rest of the store are just as beautiful. I so admire people who can do this.

This gives an idea of the eclectic mix of the merchandise.

A different view. Want to see that North Pole pillow up close?

They have pillows from individual states and countries too.

Cotton Christmas trees

I don’t know what the trees are made of, but I love the way they look. Kind of like Whoville in The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

Can you tell I’m kind of partial to the gingerbread house?

I added some glow and a soft white vignette to all but one photo. After all, if you can’t apply some pixie dust during the holidays, when can you?

Great weekend, everyone!

An American Beauty

beautyberry1

The first time I saw American beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) I couldn’t believe the color. Such a beautiul, iridescent purple. The berries appear in the fall, when lots of plants are going brown.

Their color contrasts so well with the vibrant green of the leaves.

I think the name is fitting. . . .

Hope your week is going well so far. I see that WordPress has turned on the snowflakes again this year. 🙂

Stopping at a Farmers Market

I have to say it’s pretty hard to beat the colors at a farmers market. They’ve become a favorite subject for me.

How can anything compete with the deep purple of fresh eggplant,

or orange carrots and red beets?

Did you know there was such a thing as golden beets? I didn’t.

I liked the colors so much, I “polarized” this one. . . .

[A caveat for iPhone users of the Polarize app: it only works on iOS4.2.1. If you upgrade to 4.3, you’ll no longer get it. Chris Comair, the guy who developed the app, went on to other things and no one’s come up with another version.]

I like how these yellow-green pears look in their baby blue containers

and it’s hard to top the freshness of green-and-white spring onions.

Though not as colorful, these artisan breads look wonderful to me.

Lake-side with the iPhone

A few weeks ago, we went walking by a lake in Maryland when the leaves were still turning. I didn’t have my “good camera,” but I think the iPhone did a decent job. . . .

Kensington’s Antique Row

Hey, everyone. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I am beginning to fall behind on my photos–one of the good things about doing a 365 project–so I’m posting some taken a few months ago.

Kensington, Maryland, has the oldest antiques center in metropolitan D.C. called Antique Row, located on Howard Avenue. Though it’s not the biggest antiques venue, there are some very nice things there.

I especially like this shop called Hope Chest.

K Town Bistro has a lovely window, don’t you think?

and of course, antique stores with great stuff, including baby quilts. . . .

We’ve been back to Kensington since I took these photos, and I was surprised to see that Hope Chest had moved. They have a bigger place now, but this particular storefront is no more.

Oh, I’d like to welcome two new subscribers. 🙂
