Things I heart

I heart…

Paris, but of course! It’s a toss-up between this city and London. They’re so different, but so wonderful.
Swiss balcon geraniums

Swiss Balcon geraniums. I first saw these in the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris and have loved them ever since.

Barca candy

Candy! This was taken at the Boquería market in Barcelona. I love Cadbury chocolate the best, but any of these will do.

Nursery, Casa Milà

Perfect little vignettes like this one, taken at Casa Milà in Barcelona. I’d love to have the talent to put something like this together.

Tulip Magnolia

Tulip Magnolia blossoms. I love plain Magnolias too, but “tulips” are kind of special.

Buried alive

Hey, blogging is fun! Wish there were more font choices, though. The list is pretty short. I guess I’ll learn more tips as I go along. If anyone is reading this, I apologize for the experimentation. This is like designing a magazine, in a way. Kind of daunting, but enjoyable too. I looked at tons of blogs last night and I must say there are a lot of talented people out there.

OK, another day. It’s gorgeous outside here and the leaves continue to dazzle and fall. I love the way this pickup is partially buried.

I want to list some of my favorite things, so will tackle another post, since I haven’t figured out how to run them all together with photos where I want them. The drawing board beckons….

Beautiful tiles

On a recent trip to Spain, I fell in love with all the beautiful tiles there, especially in Sevilla. Their blues are simply yummy. Enjoy….

Floor tile, Real Alcazar

Plaça de Espana

Banister, Plaza de España

These almost look like eyes, yeah? Love, love, love this blue. Spain has so many beautiful colors….

Amelia

My husband & I went to see “Amelia” last night. It wasn’t our first pick–“An Education” was sold out, darn. This movie was more like a colorized documentary with very little to warm up to.
Hillary Swank was a dead ringer for Amelia Earhart, but she didn’t really bring her to life. There was nothing to grab onto emotionally!
I wanted to know more about her childhood, what her mother was like, how she learned to fly, etc. etc. etc. When her plane went down, I felt nothing. And her story is one of the saddest in history. It’s haunted me for decades, ever since I first heard it. What a shame the moviemakers missed the mark.

"Wicked"

I know I’m late to this party, but may I say I love the musical “Wicked”? Or rather, the music? Haven’t seen the show, but know that I MUST. I was foolish enough to ignore the buzz years ago, because I disliked Maguire’s books and couldn’t imagine how one of them could be an enjoyable Broadway show. Big mistake.

Anyway, I hope to rectify the situation by either seeing the live production in New York or somewhere else this spring. I know, I know, Broadway. But sometimes out-ot-town productions can be quite good.

I’ll never get over the amazement that music can make life so much better.

Fall flowers

Tithonia

Still figuring out this whole layout thing. How to put more than one picture in a post and arrange them the way I want? Back to the drawing board….

This is a tithonia, I believe. Slightly out of focus, because it was really windy the other day!

Chickadee at the feeder

Chickadee @ the feeder

I took this the other day, and was so surprised to see the chickadee on the feeder after I uploaded. I was so intent on getting the composition, I didn’t even notice him. They are the sweetest birds! Love the red leaves in this.

We didn’t see that many birds in California. I don’t know if it was because of the lack of bugs or what. I don’t mind most of the insects here, but the mosquitoes are truly awful. And will they ever invent a repellant that doesn’t feel and smell terrible?

A misty, watercolored morning

yellow foliage
I went out in a misty, watercolored morning the other day and took some pictures. After 10 years in Southern Cal, I am loving the autumn colors and weather.

dogwood foliage

I’d forgotten how pretty the dogwood foliage gets in the fall. I’m so looking forward to see them bloom in the spring.

My First Blog

Hello…I’m a blogger, (obviously) amateur photographer and lover of all things beautiful living on the East Coast of the U.S. after 10 years in Southern Cal. I love taking photos and writing about them. I used to be a gardening freak, but now prefer to just enjoy the plant life and leave the landscaping to someone else.
I also love to read and watch movies, go for long walks and travel.

I’m fluent in French, hence the former title of my blog, which translates to “Yes, it’s going well.” I feel very blessed to be married to a wonderful man, living in a 75-year-old house on a charming tree-lined street. I also have two incredible sons who are grown, and three charming stepchildren.

I’m looking forward to posting my thoughts and images!
